Vegetable Production in Yozgat and Suggestions (ISAS2018-Winter_276)

ABSTRACT Yozgat is one of the comparatively large provinces with its surface area and ecological diversity. It contains four
different agroecological sub-regions. This variety allows the production of different crops. However, the existence of
geothermal resources is an important advantage in terms of both tourism and plant production. There are geothermal heated
greenhouses in Yozgat province and there is a total area of 30 decares. Vegetable production in Yozgat is generally made with
traditional methods. However, new production techniques are gradually becoming widespread. Vegetables which are produced
mostly in the province are onion, melon, tomato, watermelon and fresh beans. The production of many products, including
those with high economic value, can be produced in Yozgat. Although producers have suitable cultivation areas and irrigation
facilities, they do not lean toward production of new species due to problems such as, lack of information, knowledge of
modern cultural techniques and technologies or marketing. These shortcomings can be eliminated with the information and
demonstration studies to be carried out. Thus positive contributes can be made to economy of producers and province and
therefore economy of our country. In this article, the general status of vegetable growing in Yozgat and the new ideas that can
contribute positively to this situation are presented.
