Investigation of Seismic Analysis Methods in Tall Buildings with Torsional Irregularity (ISAS 2018_45)

ABSTRACT Because of the great earthquakes that have occured for centuries, many loss of lifes and goods have been experienced all over the world. Our country is located on active seismic zone. Many great earthquakes have also occurred in our country and have caused many loss of lifes and goods.

Understanding of the motion of the earthquake is very important for precautions against earthquake. The effect of earthquake motion on constructions is very complex. Many methods have been developed to calculate this effect. Time History Analysis Method is one of the most important methods developed recently. This method, based on the principle of application of acceleration records of historical earthquakes, gives much more realistic results. However, when considering the different situations that each method can be applied to, it is very important when the methods are used.

In this study, the application of tall buildings with irregular design of the methods in the literature is examined. The lateral load are calculated with different methods by creating a 10 storey tall building with torsional irregularity. The created model is analyzed with the finite element method. During analysis, Equivalent Lateral Load Method, Mode Superposition Method and Time History Analysis Method are used. The effect of torsional irregularity in tall buildings is examined by comparing results obtained. It is tested which of the methods can be applied to the tall buildings with torsional irregularity.
