The Effect of Basic Design Education on Creativity in Textile Design

Design learning in basic design education is a multi-component field of activity that develops imagination and creativity while adhering to methodological rules. With this system of relationships and methods, the individual's ability to think freely, to solve design problems, to approach materials differently, to work experimentally, to present the design idea, to have skills such as conceptual (thematic) approach develops. All these accumulations acquired at the beginner level allow the designer to approach his/her work from a multidisciplinary perspective.  In this research, qualitative evaluations were made with tables and indicators created by utilizing the data of basic design principles, basic knitting design and textile arts courses as material and method. As a result of this method, it was understood that basic design education provides students with a free, original and aesthetic perspective in creating design products. In addition to contributing to the development of students' creativity, basic design education has given them an original style; it has turned them into individuals with high individual expression power and developed aesthetic sensitivity in the design process.
